Nail Concerns!: I have white spots on my nails

Picture of white spots on the nails.

Hey all, so we are going to be talking about nail concerns that may arise and corrective solutions for them. At GTB, we provide extensive pedi-care, so yes we get deep! We are more than a buff and polish. Your nails could be telling you something, and its our job to look for the signs. A through look at your nails should be done, every so often or between manicures.

In particular white spots on your nails could be a sign of a few different things. One of them could be you simply hit your nail and now it has some bruising. In that case you can just allow the nail to grow out.

White spots on majority of the nail could also indicate that your not getting enough hydration, calcium, and it could even be signs of heart and liver issues. If this occurs it is then recommended to see a dermatologist to address these concerns.

White spots can often lead to the nails being dry, and over time get weaker. I usually recommend for clients to take a break from polish during the winter months. This will help reduce using acetone and regular polish which can further dry the nails. I am also recommending to clients that we switch over to polishes that are not only breathable (allows air and moisture to reach your nails) but also enriched nail polishes. Some polishes are enriched with wheat protein, tea tree, garlic bulb extract and many more nutrients to strengthen the nails. I would start to use a hydrating nail treatment base polish which has Pentavitin, a potent multivitamin. Then following up with nail polish colors that also enrich and strengthen. I also have acetone-free polish remover to remove with less drying out. Our goal over time is to see the nail improving.

I would end with also encouraging clients to take a multivitamin to make sure you are getting the internal nutrients.

Til next time, Bye.
